Moving can be stressful. Taking time to prepare will take away a lot of the stress on moving day. Here are some tips for getting ready for your local move:
- Start with the right materials. Check out our local U-haul for boxes at great prices. You will also need packing tape, some markers and packing paper or newspaper to wrap breakable items. These can be found at wal-mart, Target, or Amazon.
- Make a plan, it’s easy to get overwhelmed when thinking about everything in your home. Try doing one room at time.
- Decluter your home. If you have some items that you haven’t used or worn for awhile consider donating or having a yard sale.
- Make sure to take anything other than clothes out of dressers. While moving, your furniture will be wrapped, padded and turned on a side. Clothes will shift in the drawers.
- Keep any small parts of things you’ve taken apart in a zip-lock bag taped to the item.
- Don’t worry about packing or transporting clothes hanging in your closet. The men will bring wardrobe boxes for your move at no charge.
- While packing books and photo albums keep the weight of the box in mind.
- Check your pantry, you don’t want to move food that’s expired or that you no longer need or want. Consider donating to a local food bank.
- Don’t forget about your furry friends! Moving is stressful for people and pets. Consider scheduling a day at the spa for your pet or a fun day at doggie daycare! If you have cats, a cat carrier is a good idea also.
